Looking for used hank on head sails for a 1982 mark 3, I really need a 120-125 and a 100%. Does anyone know of any new sail makers lower in cost?
please email me , j_yanchuk@yahoo.ca

[This post combines a buy/sell request with a plea for information, so it technically violates our one rule on this Forum: no soliciting of private responses unless for the purpose of buying or selling something. Wy the policy? When the conversation happens in the Forum, we all learn, which is the point of having a public Forum. Please read this explanation.

That said, I'm not going to bother deleting the address despite the query about cheap sailmakers being in violation of the policy above. Why? Because I don't think there is any such thing, so the answers won't mean much - you can get a few dollars off, but you'll trade those dollars for variables like inferior cloth or absurdly long delivery times. Like the man said, there's no free lunch.

This does not mean I am relaxing a no-private-messages policy that serves us well; future posts that combine a buy/sell request with a general question will have the request or the question deleted, depending on how I feel that day. Finally, the poster might benefit from reading Scott Schoeler's sails for sale post - they're almost exactly the sizes he's looking for and putting on hanks is not expensive.

And considering Scott is about 4 hours drive away (even if across a border) ...

By the way, your link is broken.

Mylar Sails versus Dacron for cruising, any thoughts?

Appears that Scott sold one of the head-sails on fleabay.

Hoping that admin link above gets fixed.

Exchange rate bites.

Wow. I've done a lot of ebay buying but this is just stupid. For the Doyle tapedrive main, it's $1,244 CAN for the sail and ebay is telling me $1,130 CAN for shipping via UPS 'Super Saver' to me.  I asked Scott previously for asking prices on the sails he had and I ran the info through the UPS quotation system and came up with $460 CAN shipping cost. I figured that might be low ... but about 2.5 times more??? Really???

Very sorry for violating the rules on posts. Would it be cost effective to buy Scotts used sails for 600  US dollars then over 300 US to hank them ? I will have a used  1400 dollar sail before im done. Forgive us for being new to this site as well as the  boat. We have sailed a short time and all this gear is expensive. I didnt ask for the cheapest sail maker on earth, I just wondered  if anyone else had good luck with something other than the most expensive racing sail. we are  new comers to the sport. This will be my last post . Thanks for your comments we will not be renewing our membership.

Jeff

Hang in there!

A fella down near Hamilton has a bunch of hanks on for our C&C 27's.

Trying to find his email.

Others will turn up.

Don't worry about too much offending board protocol.

Not the crime of the century.

I've had messages magically disappear.

Doog is right on - it's not the crime of the century - but it is a crime here so you got your wrist tapped. Just be thankful I don't have the capacity for violence of my grade 12 Latin teacher. But you said you're sorry and that's all that's needful. Let's say no more and move on.
