Hi:
I sail in San  Diego, the wind is usually the thermal cycle, a sea breeze building as the land heats up, then fading the late afternoon. Usually, the breeze peaks at around 15 knots, sometimes closer to 20 knots.  The last two races were very windy (for San Diego)with  sustained winds over 20 knots and gusts to 27. I reefed the main, and reefed the 150% genoa, which has a foam luff.  Foam luff or not, performance of the reefed genoa is compromised. We finished way behind the rest of the fleet.
What size genoa would be correct for these conditions?

Regards,
Tony Jeske

Hi
never too much wind for a MKV - they love it!
we race, and run three head sails (no roller furling)
0 - 13 Knots we use a 155% #1
12 - 18 knots we use a 140% #2
>18 we use a 100% # 3

the boat is always fastest if there is wind for a #2, and we reef the main at 17-18 knots before switching to the 3
