Several knowledgeable sailors in this forum have suggested 12RH9 or 13RH10.  Any thoughts on these specs and possible suppliers? "Easy Does It" is powered by a Yanmar 1GM and sails out of St Margarets Bay Nova Scotia.

Daniel,
Thanks for the update. Glad that all went well for you.  To help me with my own measurements, when you say you were off by 3 inches, is that to say 29' 4" would have been perfect for your luff?

HI Daniel,
Thanks for the information.  I would certainly be interested in hearing what you think about the new main.

I am pretty sure that we are sailing with original sails on our Mark V.  We have patches on our patches.  Our need is greatest for a good main, a number 1 genoa and a number 3.  The headsails need to have luff tape as well.

We sail in St Margaret's Bay area of Nova Scotia, but wouldn't mind checking out good used sails from the Ottawa area.

I am looking for a working tiller pilot.  The Autohelm 1000 or equivalent would be perfect.

#8 Re: General discussion » Wanted: Martec prop » 2015-05-04 07:13:12

I have a martec prop that was used on our C and C 27 MKV.  It is in good condition but I don't know the specs off hand as it is stored on the boat.  If you are interested, I will grab the specs for you.  It is defiinitely 7/8 shaft size

#9 Re: General discussion » fuel in exhaust » 2014-08-10 05:23:06

I never considered that the slick could be caused by oil and not fuel.  It would be easy to switch to a heavier oil and see what happens.

Thanks

#10 Re: General discussion » Number 3 genoa for a MKV » 2014-07-29 00:56:19

Hi Mike,  Thanks for responding.  Here are the numbers from this site for my Mark V.
LP - 15.7
I  - 35.6
J - 10.1
P - 30 .6
E - 10.9

I am not sure what all these figures mean.  I can measure an existing sail if that would be more helpful.

Thanks,

Mark

I am looking for a number 3 headsail with luff tape installed.  It doesn't have to be crispy but  it should have some serious life left in her.

Lately I have noticed a film of diesel emanating from the stern of my MK V on start up.  It seems to only appear at that time.

The Yanmar diesel seems to be working properly in every other respect although it is the original engine for this boat.

Any Ideas?

#13 Re: General discussion » MkV storm jib » 2013-10-25 02:56:27

Sure.  What do you want for it?

Regarding your question about repowering with a Beta.  I have a friend who also sails a MKV and he repowered from the Yanmar to the Beta.  I believe he did most of the work himself.  He is very pleased with the results.
I can put you in touch with him if you like.

I'm looking for a sail cover for my Mk 5.  She has a red hull so red would be great but I would also consider white or grey or black.

Hi Kerry,

I put the prop issue on hold for a bit.  I want a geared one eventually and I will let you know if the martec becomes available.

I recently bought a Mk5 and and i am in the process of refurbishing a few of the obvious issues.  The rub rail just below the toe rail and out board seem to be a vinyl extrusion that inserts in a slot that runs the length of the hull.  It is damaged on my boat.  Does anyone know where this product can be purchased?  I need about five feet but an entire length would be better.

Actually, I just bought this boat and I am planning to sail it from
Cape Breton to Halifax.( a 3-4 day open ocean passsage)  I have heared that reverse is iffy and thought that for this trip I should be using a more reliable prop.

What is your experience with this prop?

#24 Re: General discussion » Main Cover » 2013-05-19 09:54:25

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  I am 90% sure that the previous owner does not have a main sail cover in inventory.  We will be doing a complete check this weekend prior to bringing her home.

Is your cover sized for the mk v boom?  and what are you asking for it?

Cheers,

Mark

Hi,

I just purchased a mk 5 with a red hull and dodger but no mainsail cover.  If it is still available. I would be interested.

Cheers,
