I'm looking to hear how people typically set up their downhaul/foreguy for the spinnaker pole.
On our boat, we have a cam cleat and fairleads on the starboard side of the cabin top leading forward. There is a padeye at the bow, very close behind the forestay. Because of this, we currently have the turning block for the downhaul located at the padeye.
The location of the turning block is a little inconvenient, since our hank-on genoa covers the turning block when it is lowered to the deck. The mast base would be a more convenient location for the turning block (especially on end-for-end gybes). As far as I can tell, the only way to get the foreguy up to the mast base would be to relocate the fairleads and cam, or create a tripping hazard on the foredeck by adding an extra turning block somewhere.
I walked around the dock and saw that most other C&C's had the same arrangement, with fairleads and a cam cleat running along the starboard side of the cabin top. I'm wondering if there is something simple that I'm not understanding about how the downhaul/foreguy should be rigged.
