#1 Re: General discussion » Boat Weight » 2008-08-16 00:30:33

I did this research a couple years ago, when planning a truck purchase.  For objects that are bouyant; displacement = weight.  I would say the boat weighs all 5500#, add the trailer and cradle, your easily around 7500#.  Just be sure your trailer has working brakes, and has sufficient tounge weight.  Also be advised the 27's are wider than the legal limit in Minnesota so a permit is required, and the height is within a few inches of legal too.

I've used a 3/4 ton Chev diesel to pull our boat around, and it does it with ease.  I also figured it was cheaper to borrow a truck to move the boat.  So I still drive my Jeep.

I'm planning on racing my 27 next season, and am wondering about any model specific tips anyone has regarding this boat.  I have been racing keelboats for the last five seasons, but only fractional rigged boats.

I've heard crew placement fore-aft is important.  I was told to keep the crews weight foreward of the companionway during tacks.  Is there merit to this?

What about headsail size coorelating to wind speed?

I am already getting anxious to get back the boat in the water, and ice out is still over three months away.

Regards, Adam
