I have been searching for a MKV here on the West coast.  They are rare out here, but I have found one but it is tied up in an estate battle.  The boat looks great and will be for sale when the legal battles are over.  One thing I noticed though,  is that it doesn't appear to have a tapered mast.  Does anyone know if the orginal masts were all tapered?  I want to race this boat and am wondering how not having a tapered mast will impact performance.

After much research I found out about this boat.  It is on the hard and has been for three years.  Under tarps and has some leaks but owner in disclosure statement claims they are not large.  Claims deck is basically delmination free.  Needs rebedding of fittings etc.

Claims hull is in good shape with no blisters.  Was expoxied in its early days.

Has a little C&C smile at the keel hull joint.

Originally standing rigging.  Running rigging needs to be upgraded.

Older outboard.  Older sails.  Interior supposedly average for a boat of this age.

As I live in Victoria, I had to scratch this off my short list, as the trucking was just too expensive to make it a practical investment.   If I was living in Eastern/Central Canada and was looking for an outboard version of the Mark V, I would have taken a closer look.

Boat is listed on Yachtworld for 15K I believe.

Hello, does anybody know anything about this boat. Its been on the market for some time, has been on the hard for several years, has a few leaks etc. etc.  I live in Victoria, so if anyone has seen this boat or heard anything about it, I would appreciate it, as its a long drive! My personal e-mail.  [email]Gary.Badgley@pensionsbc.ca">Gary.Badgley@pensionsbc.ca</a>

Cheers.

Thanks for the help.  The issue in all this is waiting lists at my yacht club.  They measure wall to wall, so having the pulpit stick out another 6 inches is measured in as well.  Doesn't matter which way the boat goes in.

I have to get this in under 30 feet and what I have found is that some motor mounts permit you to raise it vertically so the prop clears the water and the motor rests in a position that is vertical, no horizontal extension at all.   But I have only seen one motor mount that permits this, and not sure what kind it is, or whether it is adaptable to the reverse transom of the Mark V or not.   Tis a challenge but have to get this in somehow under 30' or I'm back to the inboard.

BTW: is the 9.9 honda a high thrust? Having all that weight on the quarter, does it impact the performance under sail.  Did you remove the old motor or did your boat come this way?  What do you do with all the extra space down below.?

Thks again for the thoughts.  Cheers.

I'm seriously considering purchasing an outboard version, as I won't do the inboard dance.  I have been on the waiting list for a moorage slip for a boat of this approximate length for years.  Because of this difficulty 6" in length makes all the difference.  Therefore, I need to know the exact length overall of this boat when the motor is lifted.  In other words, wall to wall measurement including pulpit.  I know it obviously sticks out past the rudder, but I need to know exactly how much.  Can anybody help me here?

I was onboard another MKV on the weekend(so he claimed) and the owner of this cream puff who has owned it for the last 15 years insisted that the boat was 25'3" LOA whereas the website says 26'6"  What is the LOA?  I need to know exactly for wharfage purposes.

The other thing was I noticed a C&C a few slips down with an outboard rudder, but this is a bigger boat.  He claims it was a 27 footer.  Does anyone know anything about this boat. Also this rudder looked very similar to the rudder on this website with a rake.  The rudder of my friends boat looked more vertical(less rake).

Confused in Victoria

I just stepped off a MKV. I was very dissappointed to discover there isn't standing headroom for a 5'9" person.  All the literature I've read on the boat states that it has 6'1".

Am I missing something here? Where did the other 4 inches go?

Ahoy!
I'm presently contemplating the purchase of a Mark V.  Evidently, it has a crack on the keel/hull joint.  I thought this was an issue for other Marks but not the V.  Has someone else seen this on a V?
Also, the boat comes with a double axle trailer with brakes in good shape.  I don't need the trailer.  Does anyone know roughly what it might be worth?
