Re: A Mk III question / I suspect it is the same on all marks - BUT - here it goes. This is my 1st stuffing / packing and it is extremely tight, hard or whatever adjective you want to use that says, I CAN'T GET IT OPEN/OFF/LOOSE!!! So the question to start is, and not a silly one if you could see my lay-out, is, if facing forward and looking on-top of the nut - is it removed, clockwise or counter clock wise? Thanks.

I too have the external scoop - with 4 screws vice bolts. The reason for removing is - speed / speed. I found a thru hull with a screen built into it. Thanks, Warren.

On a Mark III note, I understand the Mark I is worthy in a gale - BUT - how does the Mark III perform? Is she tender? Or does the extra 3" below compensate for the 2' extra up top? Dean.

Has anyone removed the scoop on the thru-hull intake on an Atomic 4? The manual indicates it should be there but if the engine runs fine without it, I'd prefer to remove it. Dean.
Any owners of a Mark III - would you happen to know your mast height (top to bottom). I measured mine and it is 35' 9". Does this sound short?
Has anyone attached a manunal or hydraulic backstay to a Mark III? I also found this piece of paper with the other papers indicating that this rig should not have any extra tensioning - AND - if not how are we/you moving the draft?

Just purchased a 27 MkIII. Currently the boat is on 4 Jack stands. Is this correct (I hope so) or should the boat be on a cradle? If so where can I get one? Make one? Cheers, Dean.
