The 2008 Etobicoke Yacht Club Levels regatta is August 23 & 24 at EYC. Come join the EYC 27 fleet racing in LORC PHRF IV - we'll have 10 + boats, scoring PHRF & level. MKIIIs - MKVs - WE'VE GOT THEM ALL. Great party, great prizes - the best 27 event on the lake. DON'T MISS IT!
mine looks like cast aluminium. Tough to weld.

Rake: I'm using about 15". Measured by hanging a wrench from the main halyard and measuring from the back of the mast to the halyard at boom height. Make sure the boat is sitting level in the water - move stuff down below if necessary. Measure with no backstay tension.
Upper shrouds: we are at 30 on the loos guage.
Lower shrouds - we are at 25 - 32 is too much - you want a bit of sag in the middle of the mast to give the main shape in lighter wind.
Prebend - the mast should have about 4" of bend in it after the shrouds are set - that's with no backstay tension.

replace the AT with @
check the internet for Asm gybing techniques - Sailing World had an article a few issues back - I have never flown one, but I believe the gybe is done by floating the clew around front of the luff - so room beteen the luff & the forestay is not an issue.

For beginner racing, try the AHMEN series - low pressure, very casual, white sail fleets.
If you want a look at racing MKV you are welcome to come crew on my boat any time to see how it is done.

Hi
- pry it up with a putty knife, or you may need a small chisel if it is stuck on good
- 4200 is fine
-make sure to remove all old bedding
- when bedding, use lots of 4200, insert the bolts and attach nuts, but tighten only half way; wait for the 4200 to set overniight, then tighten hard to squeeze down on the bedding. Don't allow the bolts to turn when you do the 2nd tightening or it will break the seal around the bolts.
jim
that's what I did

Congratulations on owning a MKV.
would you be racing or cruising?

two wraps of that expensive rigging tape (so you don't leave glue behind) then cover with white sticky tape.

better yet - get a Harken self-tacking traveller - you will never have to pull it up after a tack.
and replace those blocks on an eye with a fixed turning block - because if you are racing you still need to be able to play it in the puffs - it is vital you do so.

The Toronto Nood is June 22, 23, 24. We have FOUR MKVs willing to race - we need two more to make a fleet.
Come on, MKV owners - come out, race level, have a MKV regatta - we'll call it the Great Lakes Championship.

Hi Kenny
I have hard copy only, so I need your mailing address. And the email you posted does not work - it keeps being returned.
