Companionway Hatch Cover

Getting caught in today's rainstorm has paid off. I learned that the pesky leak was coming from the turtle that covers the companionway hatch. Has anyone removed this? I would like to have some idea what to expect prior to starting to undo screws.
thanks

Yeah Mike,
I've had mine off a couple of times in the 23 years of ownership. First, pull off the "Turtle Shell' and then remove one of the side boards on the 'slider'. This will let you get the slider out of the way. Underneath you'll see a sort of tray that has a "dam" of teakwood on three sides --- look in the corners where these 3 boards meet and you'll likely find some caulking/silicone that needs renewing.
Stay dry!!  Clare </TD></TR>

Re: Companionway Hatch Cover

Thanks Clare,
I"ll get into it when (if) it stops raining. It's been over 40 days and 40 nights I may need to move onto the boat soon!
