Mark V Rudder

I just removed the rudder from my 1984 MK V and was surprised at its weight (85 Lbs). Is this standard?

Rob:
It's a heavy sucker all right, don't get your toe between it and the ground.
I've never had a reason to cut into the mark V rudder, but I suspect you will find it's solid, probably wood with a fiberglass skin over it.

Re: Mark V Rudder

I had a crack in the top of rudder which I opened up for resealing with expoxy. Looks like a foam core.

Re: Mark V Rudder

Well, I hope when mine dries out it will come in at 80 Lbs, if not I may have to ask my club handicapper for a rating break <img src="emoticons/icon_smile.gif">!
