#1 Re: General discussion » Wanted: Martec prop » 2015-05-04 08:32:50

Mark thanks for the heads up, but your prop most likely has a low pitch number, from 7 to 10 inches. However its a good time of the year to sell it.

Found a 13X13 Martec folding, in Florida.

Michigan Blue Dot folding prop. 12"X5"X7/8"RH.
Good condition. Same design as Martec. Its a 1973.
Pictures available as well as shipping.
Price $120.00

Measure the distance from the bottom of the notch in the torpedo section, to the tip of the prop.
Then from the end of the driveshaft add that distance and 1/4'".
Do this with the same slope of the shaft. Does it touch the rudder?

1. Bright blue sail cover, almost new.
2. Later Atomic 4 cylinder head.
3. MORSE engine controls.
4. Michigan Blue Dot folding prop. 11X5RH 7/8" shaft.
Can ship from Montreal and have pictures.

And by the way, "Cygnus" that is for sale, is in very good condition.

Ebay has generally big diameter Martecs. 12" is the smallest they made. At $450, the sellers are looking for suckers. Generally they sell for much less.

My Atomic 4 is history, and was replaced by a electric motor this Spring. So I'm in need of a folding Martec prop 12X12 or 12X10, 7/8" RH, if anyone has one. I'm a willing buyer!

#9 Re: General discussion » Volvo Penta fit for a C&C 27??? » 2014-04-08 20:13:23

A sensible way could be to switch out the Atomic for another Atomic. Then switch the boat for a CS27 with a Yanmar 8hp.

#10 Re: General discussion »  Electric Motor in Mk2 » 2014-01-07 10:45:42

Yes it won't be "What's your RPM". It'll be "How many amps/hrs are you drawing"?

#11 Re: General discussion »  Electric Motor in Mk2 » 2014-01-06 22:32:36

I'm incorporating a folding prop into the system, because my Club is big into racing.
Your endurance can be increased by 50% by a Honda type generator, and wind recharging system, is seeing major price reductions.

#12 Re: General discussion »  Electric Motor in Mk2 » 2014-01-05 01:46:57

Peter, I hope I will be able to say the same. A shipwright and I are building a system for my Paceship 29, (C&C 29), this winter! I'm using a 7.2 KW motor. Have you joined Electric Seas Forum, in your area of the world?

#13 Re: General discussion » Prop shaft length for Mk2 » 2013-10-14 21:51:01

Peter, I can't help you on the length of shaft since I don't have a C&C27. Mine is a C&C 29 Mk0, known as a Paceship 29. After designing this boat they opened up their own works.
Why is the length important? A QD bushing needs only 1 1/2" of shaft length to be attached. Onto it you bolt a sheave of 5-6". I guess with 2" more of shaft the sheave will be higher off the hull and further from the dripping water.

Peter C, congratulations for the conversion. Ha Ha. I'm doing the same myself. Could I access you for design consultations?
That being said, I'm working with 3" of shaft before the stuffing box. As long as your prop is not rubbing up against its support, you can go ahead.

#16 Re: General discussion » Parting out Atomic 4 and assessories » 2013-09-26 13:41:31

I'm in Montreal, QC.
The replacement will be an electric motor. The C&C designed P29 has a V-Drive setup, and CB. Because of the CB cable, I've decided not to reinstall an internal combustion engine.
The starter is available.

Due to a defective piston, the rest is for sale.
Mechanical gauges, controls as well.
Water pump 202M7 rebuilt.,
Facet gas pump and check valve.
Prestolite distributor. etc.

#18 Re: General discussion » mkV wheel steering rudder cable adjustment » 2013-09-13 20:42:38

There is usually a chain loop running up and down the column. So it has a little slack in it. There must be an adjuster pulley.

#19 Re: General discussion » Rebuilding 1GM10 » 2013-07-15 22:13:07

Yes I noticed the exhaust carbon is flaky, and prevents caking up. Shows its working.
You have the exhaust gases on the exterior of the engine block. Must be a poor exhaust manifold to engine connection. Gasket! Maybe you could use two, retorque the bolts, or a thin layer of muffler cement on the surfaces of the gasket. Reface flatter the exhaust bracket. Hole in the exhaust hose very likely.
If you are at recommended strength in the crankcase, one school believes to run the engine for a max of 5 hours, then change the oil.
Always in the fuel, does a lot of good.

#20 Re: General discussion » Red or white sailcover for a mk5 » 2013-07-15 02:33:07

Navy is acceptable. My red hull has me eying an original main sail of mine from 1973. I can make the pattern of a sailcover on it, cut it, and have the new Canadian at the corner of the street sew it for me.
Maybe even have her use red thread. Oh la la.

#21 Re: General discussion » Folding Prop Advice » 2013-07-15 02:27:56

Kerry you can cut it down your self. I suggest 1/2" of each end at first. Trace the cut with a pencil and make a cardboard pattern of the to be cut piece. Then use the cardboard to draw the line on the other blade and start cutting. Then file the cuts.
Not necessary, but you could weigh each blade after the cut.
You could send me the outline of the blade and I could suggest a line to cut.
If it is still to big, next haul out, cut more off.

#22 Re: General discussion » Loos Rig Gauge » 2013-06-05 23:57:36

On my C&C 29 I achieved 15% on the back stay, and have only gone to 10% on the sides. Heavier winds will show if I need more on the sides.

#23 Re: General discussion » Main Cover » 2013-05-28 03:38:52

Steve, that was my first offer, knowing that to try and make a three way deal, on an open forum, can be next to impossible.

#24 Re: General discussion » Main Cover » 2013-05-25 00:42:21

Gentleman, with good intentions, I propose:
Mark, I have a Pacific Blue sailcover with 2 months usage on an 11 foot boom, that I would sell for $80 ($10 shipping included).
Steve, I'm offering $40 (shipping included) for your much older, faded, "Hermitage" labelled sailcover.
Basically I want double of what you are asking, because of the quality involved.
