I replaced oil pressure, water temp, & fuel gauges in my MK1 last year with Teleflex from Defender. $92 for the three of them. They dropped right in and wired up the same as the originals, retaining the original sending units in every case. They are all working fine. Time will tell if they outlast the teak panel I made for them.

sailonbear, thanks for your reply, I've yet to heave to in my MKI (hull# 167). What size headsail did you have up during your exercise? Was the main reefed? Was the 8.8 knots over the ground?

The original faucet in the head of my MKI has seen better days. It is a Whale freshwater angled pump, which apparently was discontinued some years ago. Does anyone have experience with a suitable replacement unit?

Thanks so much Dan! Being a newbie I also see many other good ideas throughout your boat. Very helpful.

Sorry David. I've just re-read "Using the Forum" and will try to stay on course in the future.

That wasn't intended as a rebuke; more a correction before someone tore his hair out out trying to post a photo in what has become the 'normal' way. What we have is a workaround, but it works. Thank you. - Admin

I'm on the Chesapeake (not exactly down the road from you) so I can't pop in for a look quite as easliy. I would love to see a photo of your AC installation if you get a chance to take one & e-mail it to me, or maybe post it in Black Arts.

[Our Forum software doesn't offer you the option of posting photos in the Forum directly (and Black Arts is exclusively the Admin's playground), but an effective indirect method is suggested here. Thank you. - Admin
I e-mailed both South Shore & Klacko as soon as you responded David, no reply yet from either. Time to splash now, (rather late actually), so the old ones will have to work for a while longer.
Chris
Thanks David, I'll keep you posted.
The sheaves (main & jib) at the top of my mast have a few chips out of the edges. Does anyone know if replacement parts available?

I tried both of the links you posted David, and on both occasions got the following error message: "POST or GET method passed unexpected value". I am not familiar with this error, any suggestions?

I have noticed the intermitent slow performance of the forum numerous times but chose not to mention it as I don't wish to appear a complainer. Besides, everything comes to he who is patient.
Thanks for your input David! Economics certainly plays a role, but the best result is my priority. Besides which, the 19 different grades of stainless that I have to choose from online at McMaster-Carr are all le$$ than the bronze. I have a retired machinist friend who loves quirky little projects like this, so I'll ask him about making one out of stainless for me. Dissimilar metal corrosion was my worry, as I don't need a new prop, which is bronze. My hull number is 167, apparently the last MarkI (depending on which web site I believe), built in 1972. I joined the C&C 27 Association several months ago, but I still don't know how to access/download the .pdf file.
Chris
Thanks for your interest David. I can get a 36 inch length of bronze sent to my doorstep and then machine it myself and have it ready to go in for around $120. Since the prop is bronze I thought it best to avoid any potential dissimilar metal reaction and stick with a bronze shaft (like the one I removed, only in good condition). If it turns out that stainless is obviously the best choice, I'll take that route. I find it interesting that I have the only C&C 27 with a bronze prop shaft. I would very much like to see the owners manual .pdf that you mentioned, how do I access that?
Chris Ferrier
I just removed the propeller shaft from my recently purchased (long neglected) Mark 1 and it is not in stellar condition. There is a lot of pitting and scaling where it rides in the cutlass bearing, no doubt due at least in part to the fact that it was most recently launched without a zinc of any kind. At any rate, I plan to machine a new one and would appreciate any guidance as to which bronze alloy is the best. The one I am replacing is bronze and I would rather avoid stainless (I don't even know if stainless is an option). There are several grades to choose from on McMaster Carr's website http://www.mcmaster.com/. Does anyone have the original specs for such a piece? Has anyone replaced a prop shaft?

Sorry for the delay responding, been busy "winterizing". My A4 has one more drain plug at the forward end of the starter. Hard to get to, and yielded no water when finally removed. I think the one in front of the alternator is the lowest point and therefore the most important.

Just went to the boat today to find the rudder missing! It was quite windy several days ago & apparently all the bolts and fittings at the top of the rudder post worked loose, and it just fell out and sank. Do you still have a rudder for sale?
Chris Ferrier
Sorry for the delay, I've been out of the country. I have an owner's manual with an original C&C 27 sling locating diagram dated June of '76. Would be happy to fax it to you if it's not too late.

My recently purchsed Mark one is missing a section of the luff track about 2 inches long, no doubt where one inserts the nylon slides which are sewn onto the mainsail. After poking around on rigrite.com I believe the track I have is "Kenyon Cruising Section Luff Track". If anyone knows where I can get a slice of track it would be great to have.

Thanks Marcus! I'll check it out this weekend.
I just bought my first boat, C&C hull number 167 (I think). Mk one, but with Mk two high aspect rudder. Rudder seems very hard to move even though the boat has only been on the hard for less than 2 years. Anyone have any suggestions? If anyone is familiar with "Second Wind", kept on the lower western shore of the Chesapeake for the last 20 years I would love to learn all I can about her.
