I have family in Tulsa, OK. ( now at -14 degrees C ) who threatening to head North to balmy Toronto ( now at sunny -10 degrees C ) to burnish suntans.
With air travel somewhat difficult they propose snowshoes as more suitable right now.
Starboard..............or whatever iceboaters say.

I have to admit that the coldest winter I ever knew was a summer spent in Duluth. (If you have to steal, steal from the best.)
I used to have family in Oklahoma and every winter at least one of them would quote: "Nothing between us and the North pole to stop the wind but barbed wire." I remember driving up there to go climbing and seeing a steer standing in the middle of a frozen stock tank.
Well my hat is off to you folks and the way you take the cold in stride. I'm going to look at photos of Wind Horse on a sunny day. Thank goodness for imagination.

Mike: I'm sitting at my computer reading your message, looking out the window at frozen-solid Georgian Bay. I no longer take winter in stride. I spend most every day from haulout (October) to spring launch (early May) wondering when it will end. I don't ski like I used to, and snowmobiling holds no interest for me. I'm going to head on over to Google Earth and look for places that seem warmer but not completely out of the question where health care coverage is concerned...Toronto boat show is on. I have to drive some urchins to Toronto on Sunday to take the train back to university, and I may drop in (haven't for a few years) and think nautical thoughts. Doug Hunter

Bingo. Found it: CoRoT-7b. It's the smallest planet and the most like Earth that astronomers have found to date. Surface temp of 3600F may be a problem. If I start walking now I could be there by the time our sun explodes.Doug Hunter

Mike, I'm just back from a quick mountain climbing trip to OK, reached the highest point in the State ( top level of U.S. 75/ U.S.64 3 level interchange in Tulsa ), and saw your frozen steer.
Nice OKie riding by said it used to be on top of a 100 foot black pole outside the tack shop 20 miles North of McAlester, OK., but some of the boys had pumped it full of lead one night, mistaking it for a possum, and the weight had toppled it into a passing pick-up, which in turn had rolled off the interchange leaving that 10 foot plastic steer in the bathtub. Then winter came.....
Those OKie boys really know how to have some fun.

Mike, I have finally completed Okie Noodling 101 ( OKies call it just 1 as 101 is too complicated ) and understand why an ex son-in-law had one thumb, a ring finger with a kink, and three stumps. Those catfish need a dentist.
