Looking for C&C 27 blueprints or technical diagrams

Hi there.  I am hoping someone can help me locate C&C 27 technical diagrams or blueprints.  I am trying to build a wooden model of a C&C and though I have found some technical drawings on line I have not found exactly what I am looking for.

I would appreciate any leads.

Thanks,

chris

Chris: the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston is the repository for all of the design office materials pertaining to C&C's history from its start into the 1980s. The materials weirdly are not listed online under research finding aids, but there's a considerable collection of blueprints.

Re: Looking for C&C 27 blueprints or technical diagrams

I have copies of all of the relevant drawings that the Museum has. It takes a while to locate things in the Cuthbertson FONDS at the museum(only a fraction of the materials have been properly archived thus far) and there are research fees that I paid for the drawings to be pulled from the archives and scanned. As they're technically now property of the museum I'm not sure if I'm supposed to freely distribute it. I'm sure others would be interested if the ADMIN would host the drawings. All in all they're 6mbs.

Otherwise email me at [deleted] asking for them and I'll forward asap.

John

Re: Looking for C&C 27 blueprints or technical diagrams

The blueprints and drawings made available by the Marine Museum are indeed copyright and cannot be distributed via this Forum (the address has been deleted). A further consideration, beyond the legalities of copyright, is that the Marine Museum, like every cultural entity in this country, is badly underfunded, and so understaffed, which is probably the reason they're not very responsive. However, they are the go-to people for the history of our sport and our chosen boats, so we should support them. If someone will pass me the relevant reference numbers, I will publish those on this site so people can simply e-mail and ask for them, rather than having to ask staff to dig around for them. We're not talking a lot of money to buy them, but it's important to them.

To that end, I will publish here a small copy of the drawings so people can see what's available. Someone send me the file - to be clear, I will publish a small jpeg, not the full 6 MB file.

Also, I will make available the file of a very handsome re-drawing of the original lines plans, made by Doug Hunter (who is an illustrator as well as an author) with George Cuthbertson's blessing. This shows both the Mark 1 hull (what we refer to as the Mk I and Mk II) and the Mark 2 hull (our Mk III and IV) and is definitely suitable for framing as an 11" x 17" print as well as being sufficiently detailed for model-making (I printed the copy on my wall and plus I have a small stack of balsa in my basement). Doug has kindly presented this to the Assoc as a fund-raising tool. I will let you know the terms when I have consulted others in the Assoc.

It would be great if you could post a small jpeg of the Mark 2 (MK IV) hull with the corresponding information.  This it he plan I am hoping to order from the Museum and I would love to see it first just to make sure it is what I am after.

Do you also have drawings of C&C 30' or just the 27' ?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Looking for C&C 27 blueprints or technical diagrams

Doug's drawing was done in Adobe Illustrator, so you can turn layers on and off. This means that you can show the Mk I or Mk II alone, or both combined as seen. The Museum would probably have drawings of the 30. We don't.

Incidentally, there was a man from the Belleville or Trenton YC at the Shellbacks meeting in Toronto this past Wed., who said he had just bought moulds for halfmodels of all C&C's production boats. It was unclear what he intended to do with them beside donate them to the Marine Museum. Using the moulds struck me as a nice retirement business for someone (trade a finished half-model for x number of copies from that particular mould or something like that). Otherwise, what's the point?

Re: Looking for C&C 27 blueprints or technical diagrams

Hi all: further to David's note on my drawing, it was traced from a 1974 design office drawing, a copy of which was provided by the marine museum. But getting the lines fair was a nasty bit of work and I was fortunate to have Steve Killing (whose initials were on the drawing) go over it with me. Steve also confirmed for me that there are indeed differences in the hull forms, more than just stretching out the stern, for example, as there was an effort to "bump" the hull to improve its IOR rating. I showed the drawing to George Cuthbertson recently and he surprised me by saying he knew nothing about the differences between the two hull shapes but thanked me for showing it to him.
I produced the drawing so that my father could make a 1/12 scale model of Diva for me, which hangs above my fireplace. The lines are as true as one can hope, but I caution that I would never rely on the waterline (horizontal plane) curves of the Mark 1 keel for fairing purposes.

Terrific work. I hope we can work out a way to make it a fundraiser for the site (copyright and payment processing  etc.). I'd happily pay ($10? $20? what's reasonable?) for a copy of the .AI file, both to frame and as a reference.

Re: Looking for C&C 27 blueprints or technical diagrams

I was thinking that the red-outline in the drawing posted above referenced the CC27-5 but now that I have a good look at the drawing it does not seem correct at all for the Mk V.

Does anyone have a linesplan for the Mk V C&C 27?

Thank-you,
