Check your steering cables. As you disconnected the steering cable see if they cross in the pedestal. When I put mine back together I was unaware that they cross and when the boat was launched, I looked like a drunken sailor because every thing is reversed.

Garhauer Marine has mast plates that you can purchase. I myself went to a shop and bought a stainless steel plate and had them bend the two sides on a 45deg angle. Then I did the drilling and cleanup work. If you can find the right size from them or any other supplier, it would be cheaper and a lot less frustrating.

Look at many 27 boats. There are things you must consider as well. When we bought our C&C 27 I knew the deck was shot and needed major work (and money). I spent many many hours working on this boat. I enjoyed most of the time but it was time consuming. We are now looking at selling the boat and my wife has told me NOT to go with a fixer upper. You must consider if you have to do major work were you can do it, such as a garage(if you can find a door big enough) and temperature. When we put our final coats on moisture got between the coats and the next two years the deck started to peel. So off with the hardware and lets do it again.
My C&C 27 is for sale and has a lot of new on it. Ready to sail.

This year I redid my lifelines and went with lines without the covering. I added new pelican hooks that were not on the boat before. What a change. I know this does not answer your question, but bare wire might be a choice.
Just a little FYI. I stripped off the white plastic on my first boat since it was in bad shape.

Well Scott.
You have inspired me too finally get off my #$@#% and get these pictures on the web. Seeing how Allan did it showed me the way. I hope this works. Four years ago we bought our C&C 27 with a rotting out deck(knew it when we bought it). So that winter we hired a gentleman to redo the deck. I assisted in the project and spent some three hundred hours myself on this. As you will see from the photos it was a big project. We used a moisture meter to determine the bad spots and found that we replaced about 25-30 square feet of core. The sole in the cockpit was so bad, I installed a wood floor to get me to the winter. As you will also notice we used the foam core. I found it easy to use, but I have never worked with balsa, so I can not compare.
In my second set of photos, you will notice that I had too redo the deck surface again. When the primer and paint were spayed on, the temperature was not right and we believe there was moisture on the surface. The paint peeled and for the second time in three years, ALL hardware was removed(including windows and pedestal). Not fun.

Great artical. I replaced my Cockpit sole three years ago during the winter on the hard. I removed all the hardware as you did, but removed the top. I had the same situation were the pedestal was installed with out sealing the core. We also replaced about 20 square feet of deck that had core rot. Great experience only want to do it once.

Thank you for your comments. I am using a Garhauer double block which was purchased last year. (try to use what you have, it cuts the cost) I find that it fits nicely inside and will not spin over. The placement is important and I have found an area between rivots and screws that give me a 38" travel. That should be enough to ease the main out. If I stop being lazy, some day I will do my biography for this Association and also take pictures of this outhaul. Thanks Again and any other suggestions are welcome.

In all the drawings they use a fiddle in the 4:1 or 5:1 harken. Can a double block be used instead.Tim ,Windsor On.

I have a 20 gallon fibreglass tank in the v berth. This tank has not been use for I would guess 8 years, so it is pretty ugly in there. Do you think that the bleach or cap phab would still be the best chooses. I can see how power washing would be a wet experience. Also you can not see all the edges and the top, so to fill it you would still not hit all spots.Tim Aseltine Windsor
