"The photo is shot as if we're on a starboard tack with the control line in the leeward (port) cleat, holding the car in position (in this case, about 6" to weather of the centreline).

"Just before the tack, the line is placed in the idle (stb) cleat (both cleats are engaged during the tack) and then just after tacking onto port, the line is taken out of the port-side cleat and the line in the starboard-side cleat is used to pull the car to weather." – Clare Jordan
