#1 Re: General discussion » Tiller to Wheel - All thoughts appreciated! » 2022-07-25 20:10:41

I agree with Phil's comments 100%

I have a C&C 30 Mark 1, with a wheel. The rudder post is in the cockpit like Phil's 27 Mark II.

I wish it had a tiller and one day may remove the wheel and cover the hole in the cockpit.
Having a chart plotter mounted at the wheel is nice though.

Adding a wheel to a boat with a transom mounted rudder like the 27 mk5 would be a lot of work and expense.

Take the money you would spend for the wheel and pedestal, and buy a nice tiller pilot... and rejoice in the extra room and lack of extra things to maintain/fix.

I did a quick check of the multiple C&Cs in the marina. (34ft and smaller).
The ones that have the optional sealed beam halogen spreader light, had the small vertical mount masthead light.
I believe it was made by Perko.

Looking at the Perko website, they still list the old style horizontal masthead light.  #964.
But that lights is only  "ABYC A-16 certified for use only as an original equipment replacement; not certified for new construction"

With that in mind, and the fact that the old one easily gets moisture in it, I am I going to just replace mine with a more modern LED fixture.

For those that want to replace with the same design, SeaChoice makes a replacement.

In my 1986 C&C 27 the Deck & Steaming light combination looks like a Aqua Signal Series 25

Hmm. That's the same unit that is on my Catalina 22.

Ok. My C&C has the optional sealed beam spreader light with a standalone steaming/masthead light.  Not the combo. (I assume it was an option because the Bulb replacement info that was posted here says it was an option on the 27)

I wonder if the flat machined aluminum base for the old round masthead light, will fit under the aqua signal ?

Hello all !

I recently purchased a C&C 30 mk1 (yup. an interloper wink )

Before I step the mast, I want to inspect/test all wiring, and upgrade to LED bulbs.

The front of the mast has a special flat area for a round white steaming light. It doesn't appear to have a gasket to keep the water out and uses an old GE 90 bulb.

Is that same fixture used on a C&C 27 ? (or other C&C)
Are there parts (lens/gasket/socket) available ?  (can't seem to find info about who made them)
Has anyone replaced the whole thing with something similar ?

Thanks for any advice.
