#26 Re: General discussion » Gusher 10 Mk.II Valve Plate Needed » 2009-05-05 02:39:30

Eye bolt?  Are we talking about the same part?  Pictures of the original valve plate show an elevated protrusion at the center bottom of the plate (below the valve hole), but no eye bolt.
A picture of the deteriorated plate is available at: <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/Todd.Bracken.Photos/DauntlessMaintenance?authkey=Gv1sRgCOi2q_abkrr1Xw#5332348857573876530">http://picasaweb.google.com/Todd.Bracken.Photos/DauntlessMaintenance?authkey=Gv1sRgCOi2q_abkrr1Xw#5332348857573876530</a>

Special eye bolt.  What special eye bolt?  Mine is so far gone, I didn't even know there was some type of eye bolt on the valve plate.

I recently purchased a service kit hoping to refurbish the original Whale Gusher 10 Mk II bilge pump on Dauntless.  Unfortunately the original valve plate within the pump is literally half disintegrated from being in saltwater.  While Whale has the necessary valves in the service kit, they no longer manufacture a replacement valve plate for the Gusher 10 Mk II.

The original valve plate is so far gone it's even useless as a template to fabricate a replacement.  Does anyone have one "just lying around" collecting dust that I could use?

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Thank you Allan.  That is exactly the type of picture I was seeking.  Please let me know if you come accross any other good ones like it.

Does anyone have a nice picture or two of a group (4+) sailing in a C&C 27 Mk I-IV?  I'm needing the pics for a promotional brochure regarding an adult beginner "learn to sail" program I'm teaching this summer through the local YMCA onboard "Dauntless."

I'm looking for something similar to the picture of Morgan "D"  <a href="../../fleet/source/morgand.html">http://www.cc27association.com/fleet/source/morgand.html</a>.  Any others like it out there that I might be able to use?

#31 Re: General discussion » Keel Dimensions » 2008-11-10 23:52:41

Thanks David.  I appreicate your effort in helping answer this important question.

I'm placing the offset at 5".  That should provide ample room for keel clearance while not going unnecessarily too far off the centerline of the trailer (thus minimizing binding on the tongue assemply while towing).

<p class="null" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">Fantastic.  Thank you David!

Based on the current plan, the tongue extension will pass the side of the keel 1&rsquo;-4&rdquo; up from the bottom of the keel.  Based on the information you provided (7&rdquo; keel width), I can offset the extension 4&rdquo; (from the centerline of the trailer) and still have 0.5&rdquo; to spare between the side of the keel and the side of the collapsed tongue extension ( 4&rdquo;x2-7&rdquo;/2=0.5" ).  When you use the word &ldquo;about&rdquo;, how &ldquo;about&rdquo; is &ldquo;about&rdquo;?  How confident are you of the 7&rdquo; keel width at 1&rsquo;-4&rdquo; from the bottom of the keel?

<p class="MsoNormal">This is important because it has a material impact the custom trailer I&rsquo;m currently designing (<a title="http://www.cc27association.com/f3/toast/toast.asp?sub=show&action=posts&fid=2&tid=4446" href="toast.asp?sub=show&action=posts&fid=2&tid=4446">http://www.cc27association.com/f3/toast/toast.asp?sub=show&action=posts&fid=2&tid=4446</a>).

The current plan calls for an integrated tongue extension that is offset from the centerline of the trailer.   The tongue extension enables the trailer to be placed further into the water when ramp launching the boat.  When &ldquo;collapsed&rdquo; (a.k.a. not extended) the offset tongue extension will pass aside the keel.  I want to offset the integrated extension as little as possible yet still clear the width of the keel.  The vertical placement of the extension is approximately 1 to 1.5 feet up from the bottom of the keel.  I assume that the keel is somewhat tapered (with the bottom quartile being narrower than the upper quartile).  Having an idea of the general width of the keel at various points up its length will help me minimize the degree of necessary offset.

No need to get out a micrometer, estimation to the nearest inch will do.

Does anyone know the keel width at various points up it's length (width, not cord length)?  I'd measure it myself, but Dauntless is still in the water.

I can't help with the cradle, but if you will no longer be needing them, I might be interested in your jackstands.

From the lack of replies to my 8/26 post, <a href="toast.asp?sub=show&action=posts&fid=2&tid=4340">http://www.cc27association.com/f3/toast/toast.asp?sub=show&action=posts&fid=2&tid=4340</a>, it appears no used trailer is available at this time.

It appears I have no choice but to consider having one built.  We have a very competent custom trailer builder in the area, but he would like a plan to build to.  This provides the opportunity to design plans for the "dream" road trailer for the Mk III/IV.  I though it might be beneficial to make this a community effort (and potential "Black Arts" addition), at least for the few of us who use/need a road trailer for our 27&rsquo;s.

1.  Does anyone have existing plans / dimensional information for a C&C 27 road trailer?
2.  Does anyone have pictures of their road trailer (with or without the boat)?
3.  Should the road trailer have five post support, similar to the cradle dimensions provided in &ldquo;Black Arts," or seven post support?  If seven posts are used, where should the mid-ship posts be located as there is no internal, mid-ship structural support within the boat similar to the fore and aft bulkheads?
4.  For those who use a road trailer, what features do you like best about it?  What features do you wish you had?<br style="mso-special-character: line-break;" />
All thoughts/suggestions welcomed.

Does anyone know the specific answer?  The "Rig Ht." listed under "Specifications" for the Mark IV states 37' 0".  Yet "I" is also 37' 0".  "I" is not measured from the water line so the official mast height above water line should be greater.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">In addition to adequate accommodations for my family of five, an addition criterion was a boat that was transportable to other waters like Lake Michigan or Lake Erie.

After three years of longing, looking and praying for a C&C 27 (specifically a Mk III or IV), I'm finally the proud owner of [apparently] the first Mk IV to roll off the line in 1981, hull #915.  Each of the two previous owners did an excellent job taking care of her; she is in pristine condition.  I'm fortunate to have her and am looking forward to sailing her with family and friends.  I'm awash with questions and already benefiting from the wealth of helpful information archived here.  I look forward to contributing as well...

P.S. My $25 is in the mail... really :-).
