looking for good quality used sails for mkv

I am pretty sure that we are sailing with original sails on our Mark V.  We have patches on our patches.  Our need is greatest for a good main, a number 1 genoa and a number 3.  The headsails need to have luff tape as well.

We sail in St Margaret's Bay area of Nova Scotia, but wouldn't mind checking out good used sails from the Ottawa area.

Re: looking for good quality used sails for mkv

I just ordered from http://www.precisionsailloft.com/ the sails have not arrived yet said 4 weeks but the price was really good for a cruising main dacron $725 includes radial corners and shipping.

I will let you know when I get the sail.

HI Daniel,
Thanks for the information.  I would certainly be interested in hearing what you think about the new main.

Re: looking for good quality used sails for mkv

Mark,
The new mainsail from precision sails came in yesterday.
It looks great.  I installed it last night and all went well.  I ordered the 300 series dacron with reinforced corners, 4 partial battens and one reef point.  $671.11 + Shipping to New Orleans $53.95 = $725.06.  If you ask they will even break down to 3 payments at 0% interest.

You have to supply your own measurements but the form and videos makes it pretty easy.  I was off by about 3 inches on my main luff.  I measured 29'7" and the internet states P at 29'. Everything else fit perfect.

Daniel,
Thanks for the update. Glad that all went well for you.  To help me with my own measurements, when you say you were off by 3 inches, is that to say 29' 4" would have been perfect for your luff?

Re: looking for good quality used sails for mkv

I would guess 29'10"
the sailmaker may have had to adjust for the backstay.

I submitted:
29'7" Max Luff
10'9" Max foot
12'11" Backstay Position (mast to backstay)
5" Tack Setback
2 1/2" Tack Set up )top of boom to tack fitting
6" Mast Groove (top of boom to mast gate)
2'6" Reef Hook SetBack (mast to reed hook)

I am pretty sure I do not have a stock C&C boom so your measurements may differ.  I wasn't able to sail with the new sail last night but once I get it out on the lake and able to make adjustments it may very well be the correct luff.  I was out of McLube and the slugs were a little hard to slide up which could have caused the missing inches on the luff as well.

The form they email you has lots of pictures of what and how to measure as well as a youtube channel that walks you through it.

Hope this helps.
