#26 Re: General discussion » Removing fuel tank » 2013-10-22 10:38:15

Hi Clare I pulled my rectangular tank three years ago for cleaning and inspection. However, it required me to remove the elbow to which the filler hose is affixed -- after siphoning every drop of gas and then letting it sit open for a few days to let any lingering vapours dissipate. Also removed the measurement arm, etc. Was able to remove the tank easily by rotating it 90 degrees on its horizontal axis, which makes it narrower and obviates any need to remove the locker wood trim. Hope that's clear. Reinstallation was essentially a reversal of the procedure except that I was able to leave the filler elbow attached. Best.

Can do, but not until Tuesday or, more likely, Wednesday. Just got back from boat and am heading out of town for weekend. Will shoot from sides, front, back and various angles -- with winch handles in primary and coachroof winches.

Good luck with Edson; I've found them to be very helpful. Another possible source (I should have thought of this earlier) is South Shore Yachts in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., Owner Rob MacLachlan is ex-C&C and they too are a very useful source -- for parts as well as info. They're at southshoreyachts.com, 905-468-4340 or toll-free 866.628.4080.

Consulted local service tech today. He confirmed my suspicion that C&Cs with wheel steering were Edson equipped, so suggest you check out edsonmarine.com; they have all kinds of  downloadable manuals. Hopefully yours will be there. Good luch.

no to both questions, i.e. cabintop winches and mainsheet unencumbered. a cautionary note: when i had to have some stitching done last year, my local guy said Genco had not used proper thread.

Slightly faded but structurally sound. Let me have your email with a message to kenpole at rogers dot com outside this site and I'll send you a couple of pix sometime during the weekend. It'll be surplus to my needs once I've converted to StackPack.

Hi Clare. Happy to take them off your hands if they're still available. How much bus fare is involved. Regards.

Use the search option on the line below the welcome message to find "holding tank". There is useful advice on how to do it.

If the marine fitters/service folk can't help, suggest try a company that services/supplies trucking firms. Cheers.

I have one, which you can have. I'm skedded to visit family in Scarborough, on the bluffs above the basin, over Easter weekend. However, I'm travelling by bus (rail doesn't seem trustworthy of late), so you'd have to pick up.

#41 Re: General discussion » Book to add to your sailing library: here's my suggestion, what's yours? » 2013-01-28 00:13:19

Confused. I inadvertently identified the author of "Ghosting" as Dan Poyer. It should've been David Poyer. Dan Lenson is the principal character in a series of US Navy-centric novels which Poyer continues to develop. And, for what it's worth, as a diver, I really enjoyed his four novels about a roguish commercial diver, Tiller Galloway; having dived inland blue holes on Andros, I really related to "Down to a Sunless Sea". Keep the suggestions coming. Ninety-five days to launch up here!

Suggest we add a fiction section. Recommend "Shipkiller" by Justin Scott (I think) and  "Ghosting" by Dan Poyer.

#45 Re: General discussion » cabin liner edging » 2011-09-23 07:51:50

Hi Bill. Suggest you try an RV manufacturer or other company which converts vans to RVs. They often have to cover raw edges with this type of extrusion. Failing that, suggest you try a local plastics supplier. Happy hunting.

#47 Re: General discussion » Foot pump for galley sink » 2011-08-09 07:58:32

Installed a foot pump last year in the galley area and an electric one for the head sink. Foot pump installation was a no-brainer; I drilled a hole for the pedal and then screwed the pump onto a small plywood plaform screwed to the inside of the locker. Can send some pix later in the week.

#48 Re: General discussion » Manual bilge pump O-ring » 2011-05-13 22:23:54

Thanks for the Acklands Grainger reference. Given that it's been in its current location for five years, according to the sales rep, I must have driven past it dozens of times without noticing it, en route to Princess Auto. That being said, they were able to confirm that they have the apropriate O-ring in their catalogue and I've ordered half a dozen in case others at NSC have need. See you on the water.

Have exhausted suppliers in the Ottawa area, including pump retailers/servicers. Will try further afield, including Whale. But thanks anyway.

Like most of the earlier 27s, mine came with the manual pump set into the cockpit sole. It continues to work just fine but there is a large O-ring in the top which seems to serve a double purpose, i.e. it seals the area and also seems to retain the cover plate. Does anyone know what the model number is so that I can buy a new O-ring? Thanks in advance.
